The Family

During this past summer I was given the opportunity to take art classes at Pratt Institute for a pre-college program. Before that I had never lived in a large city before. With spending four weeks in Brooklyn, I was able to become comfortable with my surroundings, and evidently more capable of taking stranger’s photographs. On one particular day that I had been walking around the city, I crossed paths with a family sitting out on their stoop. I had been trying to take a picture when one of the children stumbled into my shot. I took that as an opportunity to strike up a conversation. Soon enough, they no longer were aware of the camera and with consent I was able to get a few natural shots. This photograph of the family has been entered to and won a Gold Key at the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
